BBR Newsletter: Lonely Forest GIVES, Oregon Donor Shows
Hey friends,
========================================================
New press is rolling in for "A Pageant's End" by THE OREGON DONOR:
"With just the right mix of thrash and melody, wildly unpredictable, yet fluid chord-progressions, and groovy hooks, Pageant’s End will leave one’s inner-Pacific-Northwesterner thirsting for more. The opening track “Pagent” comes in slow, like a shy kid with glasses, but then caresses you with self-assured melody in between head-nodding drum thrusts and extremely satisfying hooks. The rest of the album picks up speed, signaled by the not-quite-primal “Whoo!” at the beginning of “Hostages,” hastening in cadence, but never really losing touch with the proggy guitar loops and emo-disguised-as-screamo vocals that necessitate that these tracks be replayed." - Wonka Vision
"There is the obvious influence of the DC, Dischord/early Emo scene, ie Grey Matter, Fugazi etc. Quickly shaking off the temptation I came to realize the band is really most like themselves. They are very good. The Anacortes quartet shows passion, growth and intelligence with this release. The loud, explosive guitars are to die for and the vocals intoxicate. Buy this record." - What's Up Magazine
"Seattle-based band The Oregon Donor comes out swinging on their sophomore LP, A Pageant's End. With the fury of a popular hometown band on the rise, the band took what was interesting about their debut Somethings and ramped it up a notch. Not only are they using prog-rock influences such as Don Caballero and early Dischord bands that they grew up on, but they seem to have thrown a little Radiohead and the like into the mix. It is important to note that the progression is more subtle than most jumps from album one to album two; it takes repeated listens to appreciate what The Oregon Donor have accomplished with A Pageant's End." - Redefine Magazine
The band has lined up multiple upcoming shows around the NW -

THE LONELY FOREST lends a new song called "I Don't Wanna Live There" to Seattle's upcoming GIVE benefit compilation! GIVE is a snapshot of the incredible creativity and diversity that defines Seattle’s music community in 2009. Among the musicians who have contributed tracks, nearly all of which are exclusive to GIVE, are hip-hop artists D. Black, Fatal Lucciauno, Champagne Champagne and Fresh Espresso; modern folk bands Fleet Foxes and The Cave Singers; country-influenced players The Moondoggies, The Maldives and Sera Cahoone; rock ‘n’ roll outfits Visqueen, Tea Cozies, and The Blakes; singer-songwriters Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, David Bazan, Joshua Morrison and Fences; and indie pop acts The Duchess and The Duke, The Long Winters and Pica Beats.
Additional musicians include: Arthur & Yu, Common Market, Grand Archives, Head Like a Kite, Hey Marseilles, Kinski, Le Loup, Mad Rad, Gabriel Mintz, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, Pearly Gate Music, The Saturday Knights, Talbot Tagora, Throw Me the Statue, J. Tillman and Unnatural Helpers.

The Oregon Donor Press!
Check out these write-ups for The Oregon Donor's new release "A Pageant's End" out now:
"The Oregon Donor is one that recalls several of the area's established favorites - say, an earlier-era Minus the Bear or a less thrashy Thermals. Tracks like "Morse Code" and "Hostages" highlight The Oregon Donor's friskier side, with picked up, jittery tempos and echoing layers of vocal harmonies - which happen to be the band's sound at its best." - Seattle Weekly
"The Oregon Donor's new record, A Pageant's End, starts with "Pageant," which spends the first minute or two tricking you into thinking it's a pretty ballad. But don't be fooled; the song evolves into a swirling and fun flurry of piano, fuzzy guitars, and harmonies. The following track, "Hostages," does the opposite—spending the first couple minutes paying homage to Built to Spill's infamous, frenzied jam sessions before chilling out into a romantic pop song. But just as most romances do, it gets sour at the end. In fact, that seems to be the Oregon Donor's MO—lure in the listener with sonic sweetness, and once the victim's in their sights, blast them back against the wall with an epic, distorted freak-out. Well played, Oregon Donor." - The Stranger
"The Oregon Donor’s literate, memorable songs, range from sweet indie pop to nearly raucous pop punk, gradually growing edgier as the band matures. Employing instruments as diverse as flute and drum machine, they create precious and catchy yet melancholic pop tunes." - GoSkagit.com
The band's playing two release shows this upcoming week -
Tuesday, 10/13 - Department of Safety, Anacortes WA w/ WHY?, Mt. Eerie, No Age
Wednesday, 10/14 - Sunset Tavern, Seattle WA w/ The Femurs (NadaMucho Presents)
