Welcome I Build Collapsible Mountains

It's with extreme excitement that we welcome I Build Collapsible Mountains from Edinburgh, Scotland to the Burning Building roster!

IBCM is the solo project of Luke G. Joyce, former frontman for Scottish post-rock band The Gothenburg Address (ex-Arab Strap), and he carries a strong history of performing to live crowds all around the UK and Europe. With his new project, Luke strips away the walls of sound and returns to his roots as a singer-songwriter.

BBR will release a debut EP from IBCM in the Spring of 2011. For now, you can listen to songs via myspace - http://www.myspace.com/ibcmountains. Expect UK and US tour announcements soon.

Again, we're incredibly excited to welcome Luke to the family. For more information, check out this interview he recently did with The Guardian.

Thanks for your continued support! 2011 will be another great year.

Some kind words about "Risk" so far:

"The 6th album from Daniel G. Harmann & co. is a first-rate set of moody indie-pop with rumbling, atmospheric guitar lines that explode into crunchy, rangy solos combined with soft, wispy vocals and a variety of catchy pop hooks" - KEXP.org

"An amazing disc here, this needs to be listened to repeatedly to truly be appreciated- one of the year's best for sure" - Go211.com

"This is a powerful album that can blow you away without having to feel loud or forced. There really isn't a single disappointment here. Risk isn't a risk. It just feels right." - buzzlegoose

"What started out so long ago as the solo voice our community termed 'rainy-day makeout music' has grown into a four person band that has managed to take those heartbreaking songs and give them the context of a vast soundscape of buzzing guitars and rumbling drums. The band will be celebrating its upcoming debut, Risk, an album that is anything but what its title says." - City Arts Magazine

the Horse & the Sistine Chapel

Daniel G. Harmann & the Trouble Starts
will release their new record, Risk, on October 26th. Mr. Harmann has been a prolific songwriter in the NW for many years and this will be his sixth record (his second with his band, the Trouble Starts). We could not be more excited to annouce the first single from the album, the Horse & the Sistine Chapel, which is available today from iTunes and Amazon!

Take a listen to the single and two other new songs; "Lions" features the beautiful vocals of Irene Barber (from fellow Seattle band Eighteen Individual Eyes) and the recording of "Dee" is brand new (check out this video that Anton Bogaty put together for the old recording).

The band is playing next on September 3rd at the Comet Tavern in Seattle. Stay tuned for much more about the release coming soon. For now, we hope you enjoy the music!

As taken from the band's bio:

“When you make a record you want to love every song on it,” Harmann says, obviously proud of his compositions and his collaborations with all these talented people. Various people have tagged his work everything from "beautiful and expressionistic" to "mope rock." "Call it what you will," Harmann says, "but at its core, its rock and roll. It's dirty and imperfect. It's quiet and loud." And on "Risk" it's truly beautiful and powerful.

For a preview of what to expect from the live show, check out this vid of them performing at the Wynn in Las Vegas! Watch here

"With just the right mix of thrash and melody, wildly unpredictable, yet fluid chord-progressions, and groovy, Pageant's End will leave one's inner-Pacific-Northwesterner thirsting for more. The Oregon Donor is a band with something to lend-Ears? Hearts? A state of mind? Rating: 4.75/5" - Wonka Vision

The loud, explosive guitars are to die for and the vocals intoxicate. Buy this record." - What's Up Magazine

"Not only are they using prog-rock influences such as Don Caballero and early Dischord bands that they grew up on, but they seem to have thrown a little Radiohead and the like into the mix...it takes repeated listens to appreciate what The Oregon Donor have accomplished with A Pageant's End" - Redefine

The Oregon Donor moves skillfully through these influences, achieving a unique, transitory sound that winds, cuts, ambles, and pops." - Adequacy.net

"...lure in the listener with sonic sweetness, and once the victim's in their sights, blast them back against the wall with an epic, distorted freak-out." - Megan Seling, The Stranger

We're only offering the free download through the end of the month so forward this e-mail to all your friends, nephews, lovers, cousins, acquaintances, coworkers, whoever. We truly appreciate your continued support.

New press for They can’t hurt you if you don’t believe in them”:

“..the album showcases the band’s talent for creating swelling soundscapes that can jump from tender to intense at a moment’s notice. Be prepared for walls of sound” – City Arts Magazine

“It's intensely visceral stuff: Melting vocals drift in and out among bleak, empathic guitar lines. At times, the songs drop to nothing but a fluid cello melody or some thin keyboard notes. The effect is almost gaspingly beautiful. It's music that creeps up before crashing into you like cold waves on a seashore—just as the best parts of SDRE's self-titled "pink album" does.” – Seattle Weekly

Moody and melodious, with a strong sense of intricate and involving harmony, exceptionally rich, complex, and often surprising full-bore orchestral arrangements, and passionate vocals, this album makes a lasting and immediate impression that’s mighty tough to shake. The thick and brooding atmosphere of despair and melancholy (the weeping strings are simply gorgeous) further enhances the overall sterling quality. Kudos are also in order for the smart and thoughtful songwriting. A hugely satisfying and impressive artistic achievement.Jersey Beat

“This album is cohesive. Each song leads into the next conceptually and melodically. There aren’t breaks, only soft pauses before dominating guitars return or mysterious soft melodies take over; the wind may die down, but it never fades away entirely.” – FensePost

“Snap out of your MGMT and Fleet Foxes phase and dig this: post-rock that doesn’t suck. This record promises to lull you into a false sense of security and then roundhouse kick you in the face with a dynamic range of euphoric sounds.
Is this album for everyone? No. But then again, nothing is. It’s nice to listen to something that doesn’t pander to an audience and is instead, genuine to itself. In short: Post Harbor has single-handedly made me excited and hopeful for obscure rock bands in 2010.” – Stereo Subversion

“It's like the whole post-rock movement never splintered. This latest from Post Harbor is full of noise, delicate ruminations and achingly gorgeous arcs of sound. Song structure? Strong sucksure. But that's okay. I'm always interested in finding new ways to listen to music. A treat for all the senses.” –
Aiding & Abetting

“The songs on their album "They Can't Hurt You If You Don't Believe In Them" remind the listener immediately of bands like Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros, and Constants -- and eventually recall the sincere, desperate vocals of Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft). You're bound to hear walls of sonic guitars and noisy atmospherics, all contrasted by painfully dreary moments when the sounds of pianos and strings cut through. This record is one I fell in love with instantly, and certainly won't forget nearly as quickly.” – The Music The Message

Post Harbor Release show & Reviews

Less than a month until Post Harbor's BBR debut "They can't hurt you if you don't believe them" is available!

It's officially out 2/23, but we hope all of you show up to pick it up early on Thursday, February 11th when we celebrate the release at Neumos in Seattle. Other bands playing include: The Oregon Donor, The Soft Hills, and Daniel G. Harmann & the Trouble Starts!

You can hear a few tracks up on the band's myspace now.

Also, the record has been receiving a ton of great reviews so far:

"This album has all of the post rock idioms rolled into one: guitar noodling, buildups, atmospheric pieces, overarching melodies, heavy parts, quiet parts, heavy/quiet/heavy parts, all of it. The members of Post Harbor studied post-rock, took it apart and put it back together expertly... set the bar for best album of 2010."
- Independentclauses.com

"When it comes to post rock, a band's material is often judged by how much atmosphere it is able to create and what kind of impact it has on a listener. Considering how many acts have joined the genre in recent years, those two traits have been able to make or break which ones become staples and which ones fade away. Seattle's Post Harbor is one of the latest post rock acts that are capable of making an impression, as their sophomore effort features stunning arrangments that are sure to stick with listeners for some time. If you're a fan of the genre, this is a disc you must add to your collection."
- Cosmosgaming.com

"Post Harbor not only blur the line between genres they transcend boundaries... pushes the limits with amibitious arrangements creating gorgeous and complex musical landscapes. Expansive and reflective without compromising the band's focused precision; Post Harbor has the ability to transport the listener to another time and place."
- Music is Amazing

"If there's any hope for what people generally refer to as 'post-rock', its in the hands of bands like Seattle's Post Harbor. A far cry from the vocal-free-gain-level exercises of much of the previous decade's post rock, Post Harbor use well timed vocals, visceral songwriting and pacing, and a wide yet consistent palette of sounds to stake their claim... This album reminded me why I fell in love with this style of music in the first place, and I'm surprised and refreshed its the first 2010 album I've really taken to."
- When We Were Younger & Better

"...an ambitious effort, comparable to that of The Appleseed Cast's 'Low Level Owl' series in a way that conventional indie songwriting is thrown out the window in favour of a fuller more varied and epic approach. If you can spare 50 minutes of your time on this record then you will be heavily rewarded for doing so..."
- Writing in Basic (UK)

"...reminiscent of such a fantastic sound... a very exceptional masterpiece!"
- STM Online (Japan)
